Forty-five years ago, Vail was little more than a dream of Pete Siebert and a few of his friends. Today Vail is North America's top ski resort destination with services and skiing second to none. And tomorrow, Vail will become even more refined.

Over the past ten years, Vail Resorts has invested over $125 million in improvements to Vail Mountain. Soon, Vail Village and LionsHead will get the same attention. Vail Resorts and the Town of Vail are working together to make North America's top ski resort destination even better. Plans call for new skier services facilities, additional shopping, dining and lodging, a new ice-skating rink, entertainment venues, enhanced streetscapes and landscaping, plus new residential opportunities.

In 2000, the Town of Vail adopted the following vision statement: To be the premier mountain resort community. For many years, in various ski industry polls, the Vail Mountian has been voted THE premier experience in North America. A Refined Vail Village will be accomplished through the completion of the Vail Front Door project. The Vail Front Door project is a major step in sustaining this commitment to excellence for many years to come.

The Vail Front Door project's direction is a plan to ensure that our guests experience a world-class destination before they ever set foot on the mountain. It is a commitment to provide guests and residents with first-class facilities, amenities and services. The Front Door project will address the ongoing needs of a maturing resort community, ensuring it remains vibrant and active.

The New LionsHead proposal evolves out of the LionsHead Master Plan approved by the Town of Vail in 1998. The objective is to transform LionsHead into a first-class destination mountain resort that captures the timeless feel and ambiance of the finest European villages, while blending it into the distinctive character already established in Vail Village.

The Vail Front Door plan, along with the The New LionsHead project, will nurture on an already outstanding alpine mountain resort, enhancing the experience of both residents and guests for generations to come.
